Inka Gold Journal Covers

Good morning, I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Today's post is the first of the Inka Gold/Mica powder blog posts for July & I would like to show you the art journal covers I decorated.

**Please note: links to the products used will be added tomorrow, Tuesday, once they are back on the website.**

Inka Gold Metallic paints are produced by Viva Decor. They come in a range of colours, are highly pigmented & produce an incredible metallic finish to all sorts of surface, without any toxic chemicals. One of their main ingredients is beeswax, which makes them very easy to apply, just by rubbing on to your chosen surface, but they can also be used with water (and they retain their metallic finish). And you can stencil with them, stamp with them, combine them with texture pastes.......... The sky's the limit! On to my journal covers...........

The first thing I wanted to do was add lots of texture to the front cover. I crumpled up tissue paper & glued it to the covers with a gel medium, then added dry wall tape & scraps of Anna Marie Designs' die cut trellis card & gave everything a coat of gel medium........

I added more texture with various embellishments; buttons, cogs, die cut & dry embossed flowers, (Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die) & used alphabet dies (Sizzix & Tim Holtz) from my stash for the words. Then I painted everything with
Deco Art's black gesso.................

Once the gesso was dry I could start adding the Inka Gold. I chose Jade & Hydrangea. I put small amounts of the paints onto my blending mat & used my finger to blend them onto the cover.

The paints will dry very quickly, especially with the heat we're having at the moment, but they can be very quickly reactivated with drops of water. You can also moisten your finger with baby wipes & that will soften the paint & help it to blend............

The paints are highly opaque so you can add colours on top of each other & just keep blending until you're happy. I added some Gold highlights to a few areas as well...........

I'm going to be using this journal to keep a record of Lisa's classes, so I didn't want a lot of texture on the back cover. It's just crumpled tissue again, the same colours, Jade & Hydrangea, of Inka Gold & black gesso through the

And here's the completed front cover, with adhesive gems from my stash added for a bit more bling................
