The Design Team

I am known as Lisa B....
I have always loved playing around 'making things' from a very early age.
Over the years I have tried my hands at sooo many different crafts and have some pleasure in them all.
My favourites over the years have been Jewellery making, Silversmithing, Teddy Bear making and of course over the last 12 years becoming totally addicted to paper crafting of any sort.
If I can tear it, stick it, cut it, paint it, bead it, mould it, stamp it or alter it in anyway I have to have a go at it....
There are many things that I love within the craft world and being the typical Gemini that I am, I am like a butterfly flitting from one thing to another but stamping and embossing has to be right up there along with flowers and butterflies......I was a florist for 14 years and love anything floral.
I live in Maidstone in Kent with my long suffering partner (of my paper addiction) Paul who is my total rock, he runs his own business making Copper Tree Water Features and his website is www.thecoppersculptor.co.uk .
I have my own craft company www.lisabdesigns.co.uk  and I am also a freelance designer and demonstrator for other craft companies. I contribute articles to craft magazines and make samples for Craft TV and I am also a guest presenter on Hochanda with Imagination Crafts.

My adventures in card making began about ten years ago with a sheet of peel-offs & a packet of skeleton leaves. Then I discovered Tim Holtz & the addiction began.
For me, it hasn't been a successful crafting session if my hands aren't covered in inks & paints. I love adding lots of layers & textures to my projects & while I still enjoy making cards, I now love working on canvases, chipboard/foamboard & in art journals.
My style, if I have one, leans heavily towards the abstract/grungey/distressed & messy, with a dash of clean & simple on the side.

I am married with two children, both in their late thirties. I have two grandchildren, who are my sons and his wife. My daughter and her husband have horses, which take up more time than children sometimes, well they certainly keep her on her toes :0)
I still work full time administering Apprenticeship schemes for a company in Kent. I was born in London but lived in Kent since I was married in 1972.
I first started crafting with my Mother, who taught me to knit. I then took up crochet which I then taught my Mum.
I have continued to knit all my life making so many clothes for children and now grandchildren.
About 30 odd years ago I took up cross stitch, which I also love.
Then about nine years ago I discovered paper crafting and have not looked back, I absolutely love it and as the years have gone on and with thanks to more and more beautiful crafty things to buy and with all the inspiration out there I think that I am improving all the time. I have known Lisa baker for a few years since back in the Invicta days and now love helping out at the workshop days. Then recently Lisa asked if I would be a member of her Design team, so I thought it a privilege to be asked. Can't say I wasn't abit worried about it but Lisa has set my mind at rest :0) So I am now really looking forward to blogging on a regular basis.

I started crafting over 9 years ago now, after a chance visit to a craft shop. I am not sure exactly what happened to me, but when I saw someone using a die-cutting machine I suddenly had an “I can do that” moment! I was fascinated by the perfect little images that appeared and inspired by the fact that I didn’t have to be an artist to make something. My first cards were basic, with peel-offs, stickers and fancy cut papers, but then I discovered the world of stamping and the rest is history!
My approach to crafting has certainly evolved over the years, most significantly once I had broken through a few barriers; accepting that there are no definite ‘rules’, things do not have to be perfect and it is ok to have some practise goes…
My style varies but my favourite themes are the ethereal world through to steampunk, inspirational quotes and vintage beauty. I love stamping, inks, and using lots of different textures and mediums on my work. I make a lot of cards, but the recent trend into the altered art world has really inspired me; I love the way this allows me to expand the methods and approaches I use.
I live in Maidstone, Kent with my husband, 3 children and a dog. I work part-time for an insurance company and use my crafting as a hobby and for some ‘me-time’. Having never been the most confident of people, it is only in recent years that I have started a blog and even started showing anyone my creations. To be asked to join Lisa’s design time is a huge honour for me and I will try my best to live up to the challenge!
