When in Doubt, Add More Dylusions Paint!

Morning all, hope you had a great weekend. Lisa & I were at a workshop on Saturday. My blog post today is another long one, I'm afraid. Hopefully, the photos explain my process, so feel free to skip the wordage. I wanted to show you that with masterboards, even if you don't have an idea to begin with, you can still end up with something that doesn't look too bad. So, let's grab the gorgeous Dylusions paints & get started..........

The first layer; Magenta & Fresh Lime applied with my fingers to a sheet of A4
Anna Marie Designs Super Smooth white card, followed by White Linen Dylusions through the

(At the time, I thought this step was a mistake, but on the finished cards you can still get a hint of these white splats, which adds to the texture).

Crushed Grape Dylusions dragged down the Super Smooth with an old credit card, then Crushed Grape again through the Designs by Georgina Blocks & Curves stencil...............

Time to add White Linen, using a baby wipe. I applied a few layers of White Linen, drying in between each one. Dylusions paints are semi-opaque, so if you apply thin layers, you will still see the layers underneath...............

Random stamping with the Hobby Art Decorative Backgrounds stamp set & Jet Black Stazon, first & second generation stamping. I didn't want crisp images, so applied the ink haphazardly to the stamps..........

There was a long gap at this point, while I tried to decide where to go next. Finally, I remembered
this project & decided to do something similar. I die cut the Stampendous Butterflies die set out of acetate to create masks, placed them on the Super Smooth card & applied thin layers of London Blue Dylusions with a mini blending tool & blending foam (VERY easy to apply the paint with these. Remember to wash them afterwards. They will be stained by the paint, but they're still reusable).......................

If you click on the image to enlarge it, you'll see that all the base layers are still just visible............

Next step, to highlight the butterflies. I went around them first with a black pen, then a white one. I also added some stenciling around the border of the card with Black Marble Dylusions & the
TCW Tiny Circles stencil...............

I chose the tiny dots stamps from Lisa's Clematis Elements stamp set from imagination Crafts & stamped them onto the butterflies with Blue & Gold Starlight paints................

Then I chose the area I wanted to use & cut two 5 & 3/4 x 5 & 3/4" squares.....................

I added more Black Marble stenciling around the edges. The quote on the first card is from the Stampendous Life Words stamp set (currently sold out).......................

I used the Stampendous Vintage Lowercase alphabet stamp set on the second card & to both I added splatters of White Linen Dylusions, mixed with water................

Both pieces were backed with black card & adhered to 7x7" white card blanks.

  3. Love the effect of the blue against the butterflies. Very clever to do it in reverse. Black outline makes a big difference as well! Fab xx
