Starlights & Texture Paste

Good morning, Kirsten here. This is the blog post I should have done on Monday, but what with returning late on Sunday night from the NEC & various other things, I didn't get a chance.

If Starlights paints are new to you, have a read of Lisa's blog post from Wednesday. It's a brief introduction into how fantastic & versatile they are. I love texture on my projects, so I wanted to see if they would mix with texture pastes. And the brief answer is yes, they do. And very well too.

I began by brayering a 6x6 piece of white Super Smooth card with three colours of Starlights; Platinum, Diamond & Silver.

This is so easy to do, the paints are very smooth & creamy. They dry in minutes, so make sure to clean your brayer immediately after use.

I love this Wavy Stripes stencil from Dutch Doobadoo..........

I mixed Cyclamen Starlights with Sweet Poppy transparent Dimension Paste. I didn't measure quantities, but I would say I used a quarter paint to paste.

Mix the two together thoroughly. You will see the gilding flakes seperate slightly, but all three elements blend together when mixed...........

If you use a transparent paste, you will get the true colour of the paint when the paste is dry. Use a white paste & the colour will be softer, almost pastel.

I added a strip of double-sided tape to either side of the stencilling & applied Fran-tage Silver Lux Mica & Glitter mix, pressing it on firmly with my fingers.............

I die cut the Leane Creatief poinsettia, adding a drop of Cosmic Shimmer glue to the centre & sprinkling the Fran-tage silver mix on top, the pine branches & the Sue Wilson holly sprays from white Super Smooth card & stamped & heat embossed the Stampendous Retro Merry Christmas onto a strip of vellum...........

  2. Great inspiration again, thank you. Great idea to put the starlights with the translucent paste, will give that one a ago. I tried putting the paints through the stencils and it got messy but with the paste...now that's a great idea! I've been trying the paints with water and swooshing them into the backgrounds with some success but the brayer works the best...so far!!! Looking forward to your next inspiration post x
