Good morning everyone, Kirsten here. Happy Monday & happy October, I hope you had a nice weekend. Thanks again to everyone who joined us for the classes in Maidstone on Friday. You can see photos of the day in this blog post & project photos in the October Classes album on the Lisa B Designs Facebook page. I'm starting my month of projects with the Imagination Crafts' Winter Robin Art Stamp & a That's Crafty MDF Triptych arch. Lots of steps to this one, so feel free to skip to the end...............
I applied stencil paste through the Craft Emotions Romantic Provence stencil to one side of all three pieces of MDF & set them aside to dry.
Two points to mention here:
1. It wasn't necessary to paint the MDF with gesso first, I just changed my mind about what I was going to do.
2. The central MDF panel is wider than the Craft Emotions stencil, so I had to wait until the paste was dry then fill in any large gaps by moving the stencil around & applying more paste.
When the paste was dry I began applying Starlights paints; Topaz, Antique Gold, Black, Silver Gold. I just kept adding paint & blending it until I was happy & that was the back of the triptych finished.........
I applied more stencil paste as above to the other side of the central panel & this time I masked off the window so that it was flat. When the paste was dry I replaced the stencil & blended Red & Rich Gold Starlights through the window, to give the impression you're looking into a room with a blazing fire. I also applied Starlights to the rest of the MDF piece, using paler colours; Silver Gold, Diamond, Antique Gold.............
I painted the window frame with Black Starlights, the shutters with Blue & above & below the window with Topaz............
I stamped the Christmas Words Art Stamp on to each side panel with WOW! embossing ink & heat set with WOW! Gold Rich embossing powder, then I applied Coral Reef Alchemy Wax on top, wiping some off to show areas of gold underneath. The Craft Emotions wooden letters were painted with Rich Gold Starlights & stuck to the MDF with Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear glue......
I stamped the Winter Robin on white Super Smooth card with Onyx Black Versafine, heat setting with WOW! Clear Gloss EP, then I painted areas using Starlights - Emerald, Red, Silver Gold - as watercolour paint, by adding water to them first. When the paint was dry I cut out the piece, added some Antique Linen Distress ink to tone down the whiteness of the card & glued it to the central MDF panel.
I painted the tiny Craft Emotions embellishment with Silver Gold Starlights & wrote '25' on it with a permanent black pen. Once all that was done I attached the jump rings (supplied with the MDF) & the triptych was complete.
The closed triptych...........
The open triptych.............
