JoFY Snowman

Good morning, Kirsten here, happy chilly Monday. I hope you had a nice weekend. I've got two quick Christmas cards to show you today, both made with the very cute snowman from stamp set JOFY58 from PaperArtsy...................

This one has a background of Victorian Velvet Distress ink, with Picked Raspberry DI sponged lightly through a snowflake stencil and splatters of Silver Starlights Metallic Paint.

I stamped the snowman on to the background with Jet Black Archival and again onto white card with Onyx Black Versafine, heat setting with WOW! Clear Gloss embossing powder. I coloured his hat and the baubles with pens before cutting him out and fixing him to the background with Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear glue.

I finished the card with a little bit of scribbling with black pen and matting and layering onto a 6x6 card blank..............

Card no. 2 was another very quick background. This time Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade Distress inks on white card, with Royal Blood Infusions from PaperArtsy sprinkled on top and spritzed with water. When that was dry I added splatters of Rich Gold Starlights

I made sure the background was thoroughly dry before applying Imagination Craft's Structure Paste through the same snowflake stencil as above, otherwise the inks would have tinted the paste. I added glitter to the wet paste, but it's not showing up in the photo.

I repeated the steps with the snowman as above, placing him at the bottom of the card this time and adding the sentiment from JOFY56....................

PaperArtsy & That's Crafty! MDF Upright

Hi everyone, Kirsten here again, happy Saturday & happy July 1st - half the year gone already!! My project today is another of the That's Crafty! MDF Uprights I decorated for Lisa's PaperArtsy workshop at the end of May.

This is the Tag Upright & I painted it with black gesso before adding a layer of Imagination Crafts' Crackle Medium, over which I painted a layer of Bahama Blue Americana Acrylic paint.

The next layer was Structure Paste through the flowers of PaperArtsy stencil PS008. This I did a few times, working my way up the upright. Obviously, I had to wait for the previous layer of Structure Paste to dry, but as Imagination's SP dries so quickly this didn't take long. When the last layer of SP was dry I replaced the stencil & stippled White Gold Starlights through it.

The next stencil layers were Ultramarine Americana Acrylic paint through PaperArtsy stencil PS034 & Titanium White Americana Acrylic through PA stencil PS001 to finish the background.

I painted pieces of Imagination's Moroccan Trellis Magi-Cutz with Topaz Starlights & added them to the upright & I stamped the flower spray from JOFY32 directly on top - this gave me the stems & the outline of a few of the flowers, enough to work out the placement of the actual flowers.

I stamped the flowers & butterflies a number of times onto watercolour card, coloured them with watercolour pens & cut them out..............

Altered MDF Uprights: PaperArtsy meets Structure Paste!

Hello all, Martina here with another make using the That's Crafty! MDF uprights!  I have decided that these little pieces of art are fabulous gifts to give instead of cards, so I think I will be making lots more from now on...

I decided to have a play with a few different products on my project, as I was feeling adventurous and bold...odd I know! I started by using the Brick Repeat Stencil from That's Crafty and randomly spreading some Structure Paste through small sections. I taped over the bottom tabs of the upright, so that I did not get any paste on them (otherwise I would struggle to put the MDF together later!)

I wanted to add some texture to the smooth sections left over, so I coated all the MDF in Café Crème Rusty Patina and let dry.

The next step was to make a 'dirty wash' effect over the whole piece. I used a small amount of Slate Grey Americana Acrylic Paint and mixed into a wash with some water. I spread the wash over the piece, letting the water sit in the brick spaces to add depth and dimension.

Now that my background was complete, I started to think about the feature elements. I used some more Structure Paste and spread through the PaperArtsy PS060 Stencil. Once dry I coloured the flowers with some markers from my stash and added some Stickles. Where I felt there were gaps, I stamped some little sprigs from the Kay Carley EKC05 Stamp Set in Black and Green Archival Ink.

To add some more dimension and layering, I also stamped and coloured some of the flowers onto Super Smooth Card. Once these were cut out, I used my embossing tool to shape them and some 3D glue to adhere. The final touch was a sentiment from the Kay Carley EKC07 Set.

There we have it! A small piece to give to someone rather than a a card. That way it is something that can stay on display!
