Good morning, Kirsten here with the first of my projects for February. As with last Friday's classes, the theme for this month will be Lavinia Stamps & Alcohol inks. My first project is a
That's Crafty acrylic triptych with the Lavinia Stamps mermaid, Alana. Lots of photos, so let's get started............
I started with the centre panel, adding drops of alcohol inks - Cool Peri, Limeade, Patina, Mermaid - and Blending Solution, soaking some up with a paper towel, allowing the ink to dry from time to time & repeating until I was happy. There's no real technique to this part, you've just got to continue until you like the result, just be patient & remember that the ink can always be reactivated with the Blending Solution...........
I added drops of Cool Peri & Juniper alcohol ink to a piece of felt on an applicator tool & swiped & pounced the inks onto the clear area of the acrylic........
Once I thought I was finished I used a foam blending tool with Mediterranean Sky & Pearl Starlights over the inks..............
I decided at this point that I wanted more ink at the top, so I scrubbed off some of the Starlights with a baby wipe, added the alcohol inks, then repainted.
For the side panels I applied the same inks & drops of Blending Solution to a piece of YUPO, colouring it Cool Peri first, I also added splatters of White Gold Starlights............
Setting that aside to dry, it was time to start stamping. I wanted the mermaids to face each other so that meant stamping them on the same side of each piece of acrylic - making sure to use Stazon ink. I outlined the acrylic pieces on the reverse of the inked card & cut them out.........
Stamping on the inked card with the Lavinia Stamps Seaweed stamp with Cobalt Archival ink & the Bubbles stamp with embossing ink, adding white embossing powder & heat set.......
I used Mod Podge to adhere the card to the back of the acrylic pieces. I used bulldog clips to hold the acrylic & card together, wrapping the acrylic in paper first so it wouldn't get scratched, I could have used elastic bands, but the clips were in front of me..............
I did the same for the other piece of acrylic. Stazon ink is a solvent based ink, so it would reactivate & dissolve the alcohol ink, using a spray adhesive, or one such as Mod Podge will prevent this..........
**Handy hint; remember to punch the holes in the correct side of the card.** :-)
I added some bubbles to the central acrylic panel by stamping with Pearl Starlights (spritz the stamp with water before applying the paint with a blending foam/sponge & clean the immediately after stamping). I also stamped the Seaweed, Fairy Barnacle & Fish stamps with Stazon & painted the seaweed & barnacles with Starlights (Zinober Gold & Sax Blue).............
All done! Time to connect the three pieces with the jump rings supplied................
