MDF Trinket Box

Morning crafters, Julie here. I hope I find you well today. This week I decided to alter an Imagination Crafts' MDF box I bought at the last class with my sister in mind.....

Firstly I unscrewed the hinges and catch from the box to make it easier to paint (I would recommend this as it's so much easier and gives a better finish). I coated the box inside and out with white gesso as a base coat, then re-coated with a beige chalk paint.

Once the paint had dried I reassembled the box and chose the Imagination Crafts' Diamond Daisy stencil and used making tape to mask off the areas I wanted. I then applied Starlights Passion Flower through the areas of the stencil using Cut 'n' Dry foam.

While the top was drying I used my finger to apply Coral Reef Alchemy Wax to the angled recess where the lid and bottom of the box meet, I then went over this with the Passion Flower Starlight I used earlier (doing the same to the 'Sisters' MDF lettering).

I glued some Hobby House Daisy trim I'd bought at class around the box lid.  I then glued on the sisters lettering onto the top of the box using cosmic shimmer and chose the picture of a pair of shoes from Rice Paper 343, removing this using the wet paint brush and tear technique. This was then applied to the top of the box using Imagination Crafts' Magi-Bond decoupage glue. I tore out more pieces from the same rice paper & adhered them to the box. I stuck a gem in each of the corner daisies and highlighted the shoes and butterfly with glossy accents leaving this overnight to dry.

The next day I finished the sides of the box off with the masked off Daisy Diamond stencil and same Passion Flower Starlights.

This project took a little longer to make than a card but was fun to do, especially if you have someone in mind as you can tailor the design to them.

I hope you like my make as I'm sure my sister will, but she'll have to wait until October for her birthday!

I will line the inside bottom of the box with some felt to complete the present (just need to buy some in the right colour first!).
