Glittery and Dimensional Sweet Poppy Dotty Flowers

Good morning all! How is the crafting coming along? Starting to fulfil those resolutions to make Christmas cards all through the year and not leave it to the last minute again? I don't know if it counts, but I bought loads of stuff in the sales with a view to using it on my cards?? The ideas and intentions are there...? We'll see I guess!

I haven't used my Sweet Poppy stash for a while, so I thought I would have a play with a stencil we used in one of Lisa's classes.

With a 6x6 card blank as my base, my first step was to cut a piece of Super Smooth White Card to make a topper (13.5 x 11 cm).  I then used a Blending Tool to softly apply three colours of Distress Ink around the edges of the card (I used Peacock Feathers, Victorian Velvet and Dusty Concord). I then used one of the colours and applied gently through the TCW Mini Raindrops Stencil. On top of this, I used the other two colours to stamp background stamps from the Hobby Art Decorative Backgrounds set randomly across the topper (2nd and 3rd generations of ink only).

Once my background was complete, I positioned the Sweet Poppy Dotty Flowers stencil over the top and taped it down with Stencil Tape onto a Heat Resistant Mat.

Using my Distress Inks again, I applied ink through the stencil. You can do this with sponges, blending tools or even daubers, but I found the stencil was too fine in this case and so turned to my eye shadow applicators! These were great for getting the ink in exactly the correct areas...

Once I was happy with the ink, I then cleaned the stencil and re-positioned it over my topper. This time I applied Sweet Poppy Translucent Paste over the top. The image looked totally white at first, but I knew it would dry clear! To apply the glitter, I used a technique Lisa showed us and sliced the end off of a straw. This gives a relatively fine 'applicator spoon' to use when applying different shades of glitter. I used three colours of glitter similar to the ink colours I had chosen.

If you want to conserve your glitter, after each colour's application swiftly turn your card over and tap off before applying the next colour. Otherwise, apply each one with your straw and then make a mixed pot! (completely leave your image to dry before attempting to properly tap off all the excess though). After a couple of hours you can then use a paint brush to wipe over and the detail really comes through.

The final stage and it's time to matt and layer the main topper with some co-ordinating cardstock. I also added a sentiment to the side and some ribbon.

So, that's one of the many thank you cards I need to send! Oh dear..

Thank you for reading!
Love
Martina
