Wheatfield Surprise

Good morning blog visitors, Kirsten here with a Tuesday tutorial.
 This is the first project I made using Imagination Crafts’ Silkies paints & I was very impressed by them.

I chose one of the Lavinia Stamps background papers & based my background scene colours on it, so I used the following distress inks;
Weathered Wood, Seedless Preserves, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Milled Lavender, Shaded Lilac.

I stamped the Zen Houses onto Super Smooth white card with Onyx Black Versafine & stamped them again onto a sheet of Mask It. I cut these out, removed the plastic backing & placed the sticky backed images over the houses on the white card.

002

I tore a piece of paper & placed it over the top two thirds of the masked houses, then blended Weather Wood distress ink over the lower third of the card for the ground. For the sky I used Milled Lavender, Shaded Lilac distress inks, with a little Tumbled Glass at the edges.

Keeping the masks in place I began applying Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade & Seedless Preserves distress inks through the Glitz Craft Wheatfield stencil, trying to vary the amount of colour as I went.

004

I flipped the stencil over & also used just sections of it, trying to create different heights & making sure to leave open space too.

Once I was happy with the stencilling I removed the masks & began to start painting with the Silkies, using a very fine detail paintbrush & mixing the paints with water, to create thin washes. The colours I used are; Apple Lace, Sunshine Satin & Sunset Satin.

 It was at this point that I realised I had forgotten to set the Versafine with clear embossing powder. I decided to go ahead, using a clean baby wipe to wipe off what paint I could from the black ink.
At the end, I went over some areas with a fine detail black pen, but I would definitely recommend you use clear embossing powder before painting. It will give you a much crisper image.

006

I built up the paint slowly, drying in between layers – although the Silkies do dry very quickly, so I needed a quick waft of my heat tool. I also used watercolour pencils in a few areas to create layers of colour.

I added the Card-io Flutterby Garden butterflies & the Sweet Birdhouse flowers with Atlantic & Boysenberry Versacolor inks to add extra details.

Glossy Accents went on the windows………..

The finished picture was put on a square of dark purple card, layered onto the background paper & then onto a 7 x7 white card blank…….
