Hobby Art & Dylusions Cards

Morning all, Kirsten here. Happy Leap Year day, hope you had a great weekend. This is the final week of our Hobby Art projects & I've got two cards to show you. I used:

Indigo Blu Ink Splat Butterfly stamp
Indigo Blu Circles stamp

I used blending tools & foams to apply Squeezed Orange & Lemon Zest Dylusions to a piece of white Super Smooth card, then added the stencilling with the TCW Mini Dancing Leaves stencil. the next step was second & third generation stamping with the Indigo Blu stamp.

I then stamped stamps from the Wildflowers set with black ink & added more stencilling with White Linen & Black Marble Dylusions.

I stamped the butterfly onto a scrap of card with Onyx Black Versafine ink & heat set it with clear embossing powder. I finished the card with the sentiment from the Wildflowers set...........

The second card has the Dancing Leaves, Dashed Lines & Two Leaf stencils in shades of London Blue Dylusions. I stamped the bulrushes from the Wildflowers directly on top & painted them with Red Starlights. I added some more stamping from the Wildflowers set to finish the card.........

A Distressed Harbour Village with a Steampunk Twist...

Good morning all! How are we all doing? Looking forward to class next week? Did you manage to watch Lisa on Hochanda? I saw some of it, but did not realise you could not watch it on catch-up TV (doh!). Just as well really, otherwise my purse would be burning I imagine... Speaking of which, anyone going to the Make It! show this weekend? I am, with a view to being very selective this time... I will let you know if I succeed!

This week I am looking at a card I created using the Hobby Art Harbour Village set again, but in a bit of a different way this time, creating a more 'steampunk' look. I wanted to make a men's card, with darker colours and a vintage feel. I did not want to spend ages on it, and in truth the planning and playing with different bits took the longest time; if I wanted to make it again it would not take long!

The first step was to decide on the size of my card and of the 'topper' panel that I wanted to create. I used a 6x6" card blank and cut a 7x10cm rectangle for my topper from Super Smooth Card.
Once I had my size of topper, I planned my scene on scrap paper using my stamps until I was happy with a layout (see last week's post for more detail re this process!). Next, taking Versamark Ink, I stamped the Harbour Village Stamps onto my panel and heat embossed with Bright White Wow Embossing Powder. The birds I used are from the Cardio Winter Walks Christmas Set, which seem to work well too! At this point there is nothing really visible on the card, so next is where the magic begins... Using a Blending Tool, I applied Distress Ink all over the topper. I started with the lightest colour (Tumbled Glass) and then  added Faded Jeans around the edges and in the areas where there would be some shade. To bring the colours in, I edged the topper with Black Soot and then added some Scattered Straw ink into the middle as though there was a light source ( hard to see from my photo I know).

I also wanted to create some layers on my card, so I used some more Super Smooth Card to cut a panel 12x12cm, coloured with the Distress Ink and then embossed through a die-cutting machine. Once embossed I went over again with the darker colours to make the emboss really pop. I layered this panel onto some brown card which I had distressed using an Edge Crimper Tool. To add a little more layering I also used a White Jelly Roll pen to 'dot-dash' around the edge.

On top of my embossed panel, I cut some more card, (5x10cm) coloured with inks and then stamped a nautical stamp randomly across it using the Scattered Straw ink. I used some garden string and a Steampunk Charm for some dimension and layered this on some more brown card, tearing along one edge.

My final touch was to use some brads that I had in my stash on the side of the topper panel...

I hope you like it: different I know, I am not sure what I was thinking at the time, but I quite like it after all!
Thank you for reading, will see you next week for a final Hobby Art post and then class on Friday!
Love
Martina

Layered Hobby Art Card

Good morning, Kirsten here. Hope you all had a lovely weekend. This is a scheduled post, as Lisa & I are the CHSI trade show at the NEC in Birmingham.

For today's card, I used:

This is the second version of this card. After finishing the first one, I decided I didn't like it, so I took it apart, cutting off the poppy heads, the textured stencilling & the sentiment & matting them on to black card.

I began the background by stamping the text stamp from the Poppy Heads set & the hessian stamp from the Textures set with a permanent grey ink, making sure to get partial images only by not covering the stamps with ink. Then I began applying Fresh Lime, Cut Grass & lemon Zest Dylusions with baby wipes, knocking back some of the colour with White Linen Dylusions.........

I have no photos of the next step, but it was just stamping more of the Texture stamps with permanent green & purple inks & splatters of white gesso, mixed with water............

I painted scraps of white Super Smooth card with Grape Crush & Squeezed Orange Dylusions, stamped the poppies with black ink, added shading with London Blue & Postbox Red, cut out the flowers & added the hand-drawn leaves & stems with a permanent black pen............

The finished card again..............

That's it from me for this week. I'll be back next Monday with my final Hobby Art cards for this month. Have a great week.

Hobby Art By The Sea Pop Up

Hello all, how cold has it been this week!!  So I thought a bit of seaside fun was in order.

First I used my template to make a pop up box card and cut out some black card then white card for the matting and layering for each panel.

I then stamped the white panels using Antique Linen Distress Ink and the Hobby Art Shells Stamp Set Sea Anenomie and the Textures Stamp Set image that looks like mesh.

I then stamped two of each of the Hobby Art Shells Stamp images, I stamped the beach huts from the Summer Holiday Stamp Set three times.  I coloured them all in using watercolour pencils and then cut them all out.

Once they were all cut out I decided they needed lifting, so I got some Diamond Sparkle Medium and some Cut and Dry Foam and foiled all of the images, as follows:
On a crafting mat I placed about half a teaspoon of the Sparkle Medium and dabbed it with the Cut and Dry until it was absorbed, then transferred that to the cut out image by dabbing once again.

I then stuck the above images onto the three top smaller panels using either Cosmic Shimmer or mounting foam.

It was then time to assemble the box, so the back and front large panels went on first, followed by the bottom three............which I then foam mounted the beach huts on to.  Then added the top three panels.

I then cut two strips of card 2.5cm x 10cm and creased each end at 1.5mm and glued inside the box to create the struts to hold the embellishments.  I cut some acetate 2 cm x 10 cm and stuck one of the larger imaged onto one end before placing on the struts.  I created a little birthday sentiment using peels offs and to put a little bit of humour into it I crossed out the W from the Wishes and replaced it with an F, oh dear, did I really do that :o)    I thought for a little added texture and if it wasn't going through the post some fine netting could be threaded through the struts to look like fishing net.

Here's a coupe of close ups and the card again from two angles.

Just a little bit of fun, hope you enjoyed it and thanks as always for looking at the blog.  See you again next week, Love Jan -x-
