Winter Robin

Hello crafters, Kirsten here.
This was intended to be a mini tutorial, until I discovered that half of the photos were rubbish – the light was terrible when I was working on today’s post. I shall try to explain clearly what I did.

 

 

This is the Winter Robin image from Hobby Art. I stamped it with black Archival & it stamps perfectly. I’ve been using water colour pencils a lot on my own projects recently, so I thought I’d share a few tips.  Focusing on the pots, firstly colour all over them with a light colour, I used a mustard yellow pencil.

 

Then colour the shaded area with a light brown, followed by a darker brown. Colour a few other areas of the pots with the light brown pencil also. When you’re happy go back over the pots with the mustard yellow. This blends all the colours & removes any harsh lines.

 

I did the same thing with the holly leaves & berries. I coloured the robin’s red breast with a pale pink pencil first, followed by two shades of red & finished with the pink.

 

 

I used a grey pencil very lightly to give definition to the snowy areas & added highlights with a white pen.

 

 

Two things about colouring pencils; they will give the impression of texture if you vary the strokes between light & heavy & if you let each layer ‘dry’ for a few seconds you can build a very effective depth of colour – that sounds strange, I know, because you’re using the pencils dry already, but trust me, it works.

 

 

I embossed a piece of white card with the Embossalicious lattice EF & die cut a circle from the centre & attached the image to a piece of red core’dinations underneath.

 

Next, I tried the same colouring techniques on a piece of kraft card, using mostly browns & then the white pencil in addition to the white pen as highlighters.

 

I embellished both pieces with Star Dust & Xmas Red stickles.

More Robin & Friends....

Good morning everyone

This week I've continued to use the Hobby Art

clear 'Scene It' stamp set called Robin and Friends available HERE

Using Stormy Sky Distress Ink I stamped the background direct on to a 

Craftwork Card straight edge 119 x 119mm card 

using a Woodware Clear Magic Stamp called Snowflakes and Sparkles

I only stamped around the edge of the card leaving the centre blank

Using Black Onyx Versafine, I stamped the birds in to the centre of the card and coloured with Promarkers

I then used Stormy Sky Distress Ink to colour around the edge of a 

large Craftwork Cards Embossed Polaroid Frame and attached it with

Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear Glue 

For sparkle I used Xmas Red, Holly and Star Dust Stickles glitter glue

I finished off with some silver ribbon and a 

Craftwork Cards sentiment

Eskimo Kisses

 

Hi! It's Georgina with my regular Thursday post. Today I have a Christmas Shutter card to share with you.

 

I created the shutter card base from mid blue card. I used the cute Hobby House Eskimo Kisses toppers available from Lisa B. Designs for the three images on my card. I mounted the toppers onto dark blue card before adding them to the card. I also added red card strips above the toppers.

 

I cut pieces of Hobby House Sailor Blue Spots paper, Red Spot paper and dark blue card for the panels of the card. I also added two Craftwork Cards sentiment die cut to the dark blue panels. I drew white faux stitching to the red and dark blue panels.

To finish the card I cut two snowflakes using Joy Craft Ice Crystal 2 cutting die. I added red gems to the centre of the snowflakes. Finally I added glitter to the edges of the panels and to the toppers.

 

This is the card once folded up ready for an envelope.

   

Four Cards for Christmas

Hello, Kirsten here with my regular Tuesday post. I don’t have anything new to show you this week as I didn’t get time to meet with Lisa before she went to Birmingham to demo at the NEC for J & C Creations. Hopefully, we’ll meet up this week at some point. So, I have four different cards to show you, all quick & simple, made with Hobby Art stamps & Joy Crafts dies.

 

 

For the first card I used the Craftwork Cards chipboard letters as a mask, placing them on a card blank & spritzing over the top with acrylic paints I’d mixed with water in some mister bottles. I then spritzed with a mix of pale gold mica powder & water. To highlight the word I doodled with a black waterproof pen. Georgie was coloured with watercolour pencils.

Card number 2. I stamped the Hobby Art snowflakes with Evergreen Bough distress ink, coloured Georgie with watercolour pencils & added Icicle stickles details. I cut two ‘hills’ from white card & embossed them & made a tree from scraps of glitter card.

Card number 3 couldn’t be simpler. Nitwits patterned card with a snowflake wreath on top. The die cut circle greetings are from an old CWC set of messages in my stash. They take distress inks really well, so you can change the colour easily.

 

Card number 4 is definitely not a traditional Christmas card. I coloured the card blank & a separate piece of white card with Peacock Feathers distress ink. Then I dry embossed the separate card with the Embossalicious Lattice embossing folder, adding a little more DI afterwards & matting it onto black card. The Joy Crafts snowflakes were attached with Cosmic Shimmer glue & adhesive gems put on top.
