Card-io Snowman

Hello crafters, how quickly these Fridays come around.  Another Card-io blog for you today, this is my take on the Card-io Combinations Christmas Scenery 2

 

 

I took a 6" x 6" card and thought I'd use up some of the master boards we've been using recently (I explained how I made this board in my blog dated Friday 18th September) so cut a piece 5" x 5" then cut that in four even squares.

 

I then matted each square onto plain black card.  Once I cut the plain white card to place on top of the matted card, I placed thin double sided tape along each edge then dipped that into a container full of Glamour Dust.  I repeated that for each of the squares. 

 

 

It was then I decided not to mat a fourth square so simply masked off the area on the card and used Spun Sugar Distress Ink and a mini blending tool and softly blended the area before stamping my sentiments from the Card-io Christmas Sentiments.  I then added some gems for a little extra sparkle.

 

 

 

    I chose the snowman image from the Card-io Combinations Collection Christmas Scenery 2 and decided I wanted to stamp him on each square by using Black Onyx Versafine and Wow Clear Embossing Powder.  Once that was done I matted them all up ready to place on the card.

 

 

 Now I had all my elements I simply marked each square where I wanted it to go on the card and used foam pads for dimension.

Creating a View with Card-io Stamps

 

Good morning crafty peeps! October: the month during which the supermarkets start bombarding us with Halloween, fireworks and Christmas all at once! Have you had a mince pie yet? I am trying hard to resist, but I am rather partial, I fully admit...

 

This month we started to succumb to the inevitable and began some Christmas cards in class. We focused on using scene building ideas, creating unique little pictures which make fun and funky cards! The bonus is, once you get in the zone, you can make loads in a batch!

 

I was given a set from Card-io called 'Winter Walks' to play with, along with some sentiments. I always find these scene-style sets deceptive, as when you first look I don't think you always see all the options and the small stamps within. This is one of those situations in which playing is a MUST!

 

When I first looked at the stamps, I loved the people that were walking and this inspired me to create a scene through a window. I reached for my dies and found an old Spellbinders D-Lites die and started to play.

 

 

My first step was to draw around the inner section of the window to get an idea of the size of the area I had to work with. I always do this when creating a scene, as I find it easier to plan my layout. I cannot simply go straight to stamping, otherwise I get items in the wrong perspective, squashed or missing! I also think having a play with a smaller area rather than a blank sheet gives you confidence. Take the time to prepare, and it's worth it in the end...(rather like preparing to decorate!).

 

Pictured above is the scene I decided I wanted to go with. I also die-cut a template window so that I could check the positioning (I will go into detail with creating the scene elements in my tutorial post next Thursday if you would like to see this in more depth). I have used torn copy paper to create my hills, and drawn around the top of a small bottle and cut out a moon shape. The Winter Walks Card-io stamps have been stamped using Versafine Onyx Black ink, as there is some fine detail within and I wanted to capture all of this. Tip: if you are using glossy card, or don't want to wait for inks to dry, you can use Jet Black Staz-On. To add the colours I have used Distress Inks (Salty Ocean, or a similar blue works well, along with Squeezed Lemonade). There are also lots of Versacolour pads that will also give great effects.

 

Once I had decided my scene, I drew around the shape again onto Super Smooth White Card. I then stamped the scene, added some Crystal Glitter and cut it out. I also cut a window out, put some acetate behind the window panes and stuck the window elements together with Cosmic Shimmer glue.

 

The final card has been finished with an embossed panel behind the window, and mounted onto some co-ordinating card. I have added a sentiment panel using one of the stamps from the Card-io Christmas Sentiments selection.

Cardio Stamps Class Cards from last Friday......

How are you all today, having a great crafty week I hope?

Well, we finally have to give in. I know it has only just turned October, but it is upon us already and we have to start talking about the 'C' word!!!!

Yep, CHRISTMAS has truly arrived in the world of craft and we had the first Christmas class last Friday on Card-io Scene stamping. If you missed Kirsten's fantastic review post all about the day you can catch up HERE.

I kept the class cards very clean and simple as I really think they look so classy when less is more with this style of scene building. If you have ever had the chance to watch Wendy from Card-io Stamps at the shows, her demos are so lovely and she does some wonderful samples with her cards and I have taken a lot of inspiration from her.

I am not going to go in to too much detail today about the first card as I am going to do a tutorial on it on here on Wednesday 21st October, but this was the first card that the ladies made with all different trees that were from the stamp set called Woodland Walks. 

Unfortunately it sold out at the class but will be back in stock very soon as I have re-ordered it along with a lot of others that sold out on the night, I will let you know as soon as they are back in stock and on the website.......

The second card that they made was the inspiration that I took from Wendy at Card-io. She makes  lovely little cards with gorgeous sunrise/sunset backgrounds on the horizon and I knew that the ladies would love to create them. Let's face it, this is the time of year when we have to make lots more cards than we do normally and it is great to be able to make batch cards and not have to repeat exactly the same scene and these lovely little stamps are great for it......

I gave the ladies a hand cut Mylar mound stencil to create their horizons with and we used Distress Inks in yellow and orange tones and a blending tool. I also gave them a little card template each that I had cut a small circle from to create the moon. The images were stamped in Black Stazon so that they dried quickly and then we used a little Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to ground the images using the Mylar mound and blending tool.....

With the open top on the houses you need to make a mask of the house before adding in your horizon, I made this using Mask-it.......

The sentiments are all of these cards are from the Card-io Christmas Sentiments stamps set.

I hope that you have enjoyed looking at these little scenes, they are great fun to make and I had a super time with all my lovely ladies at my class. I really appreciate all your continued support and love crafting with you all......
