Playing with Alcohol Inks, Stencils, Stamps and Sparkle!

Hello fellow craftaholics! I am being let loose again this week, playing (and making a mess with) Alcohol Inks! Yes, you guessed it, there are some 'mistakes' along the way...

My first step was to put some drops of Amethyst, Cool Peri and Mermaid Alcohol Ink onto the Applicator Felt on my Blending Tool.  I also added some Blending Solution so that the inks would be more 'movable' on my Gloss Card. Once my felt was 'loaded' I streaked my tool horizontally across my card and let it dry.

When the ink was dry, it sunk into the card and lightened slightly. Seeing that I could build up the layers a little more, I thought I would try using some ink through a stencil. I loaded a new felt with some Meadow Alcohol Ink and pounced through it through the That's Crafty! Dragonfly Flight Stencil. Once I removed the stencil, I realised that my felt had been too wet and that is why I had some blurring. Not to be discouraged, I kept going... 

Still wanting to experiment, I loaded another felt with some Mermaid Alcohol Ink and this time used it as a stamp pad onto a large word stamp. I stamped a couple of times, overlapping and just playing really!

Now, to hide my blurry dragonfly, I stamped a sentiment from my stash with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow White Powder. I did the same process with one of the Lavinia Hares and the fairy Shaylee Stamp (BARGAIN ALERT - Shaylee is 33% off on Lisa's Website!!) 

There was still a few little blurry dragonflies, so to disguise these I decided to add some Silver Stickles and make the fairy look as if she was creating them...

So what do you think?

Lesson learnt - don't go too heavy with ink if you want to stencil with it! (or if you do, plough on and cover it!)

Lavinia Stamps and Alcohol Inks with Acetate tuck in's............

Good morning all,

Well I did attempt to do this post last night but after drinking a bottle of champagne that was part of my Valentines present,......... bearing in mind I have not touched a drop of alcohol since 9th January.

Well you can imagine.........

I was feeling a little squiffy to say the least and the fact that I could see two screens was not helping......So I gave up and decided to do it this morning!

I am madly busy at the moment getting ready for the annual spring NEC Trade show at the weekend and also preparing demos for the next Hochanda Shows on 25th February!!!

So today I thought that I would show you a couple of makes from my class last month using the gorgeous new Lavinia Stamps and alcohol inks and then adding a lovely Hunkydory foiled acetate tuck in to the front to add more dimension. The ladies made one of these at the class and loved it.....

I will list everything I used underneath, I really must remember to take stage by stage photos but am always so busy and need to get them done and forget!!!

Badger Circles

Good Morning crafters, Julie here, I hope I find you well today?

An ideal time to craft at the moment now the weather has turned a little chillier....no point in trying to garden! Well, it's another alcohol inks card today, which I found great fun creating. This medium was new to me but I will definitely be creating more of these in the future. Especially some fairy cards I think......

Right, best get on with the write up....I started with a piece of Yupo paper and applied Honeycomb alcohol ink to the Yupo and spread this over using a lint on my applicator tool to give me a base colour.

The I started to drop alcohol inks on, firstly using Juniper, then Teakwood and then some Limeade, this was a little bright so I added some more Juniper to tone it down.

I then applied Blending Solution to my lint and started dabbing away until I achieved my desired effect. I think this is so satisfying watching what you've created change before you eyes.

I then cut a circle out of some super smooth to make a mask for a moon and put this where I wanted it on my background and used the lint with blending solution on to remove the ink and create my moon in the distance.

I left this to dry and selected my Lavinia stamps, these were Badger, Mini Snail, Mini Flutterby  and Ivy border for the base. I stamped these onto my background using Jet Black Archival ink and when dry cut the background down to be square. I found some green card from my stash to mount onto my card blank but decided this looked a little too flat.

I decided to die cut my background using circle dies. Whichever layer I stuck flat the  alternate layers were raised on double sided sticky pads. This added a more interesting dimension to my card I think.

I matted this onto the card base and added some white pen marks to my badger's head and some crystal Stickles to the butterfly to complete the card.

Alcohol Inks & Lavinia

 

Hi there all, glad to know you've popped by today.  Very busy week for me this week, travelling to Blackpool for a work event on Monday and Tuesday, two very long days.  The rest of the week in the office catching up and facilitating an Apprentice event at Rochester, all good stuff.

 

 

So, like Martina, this was the first time I had used Alcohol inks with gloss card but was looking forward to seeing the effect as  I had looked on YouTube to see some demonstrations and found some good ones' with Tim Holtz and also Tracey from Lavinia, I found them both very helpful.

 

 

I took a 6" x 6" blank white card and cut a piece of white gloss card 5" x 5". 

 

So for my first attempt I thought I'd use one of the Tim Holtz techniques of laying down the ink onto a craft mat and swiping my card over going from right to left.  I wanted to get a sort of grass and sky effect.

I then used my blending tool with a felt applicator and a little of the Blending Solution and done some 'pouncing' (love that word) over the sky to make it look a little cloudy.

 

I used the Lavinia Willow stamp (* sorry but this was on the web when I made the card last week, but was obviously popular at the class) and Archival Ink stamped various lengths of the willow both initial and double stamping for definition.  I then stamped the Lavinia Grass Stamp* using the same method.  I wanted to stamp just one of the Woodland Hare's* from the new range looking up at the little Lavinia Fairy Couple.

 

 

I decided to draw in  few lines to ground the hare in the grasses and also add a bit of sparkle by using Silver Stickles.

 

I then matted the image onto some black card before adding it to the card blank, here's the card again.

 

 

 

I think a very quick card but with lots of effect from the inks and the silhouettes of the stamps.
